Safeguarding

We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all of our pupils, staff and visitors

At Teesside High School, pupil safety and welfare is our priority.

Safeguarding and Child Protection refers to how we:

  • Protect children from maltreatment.
  • Prevent impairment of children’s health or development.
  • Ensure that children are growing up in safe and effective care which allows them to fulfil their potential and enter adulthood successfully.

There are different types of abuse or maltreatment and they can include physical injury, sexual abuse, peer on peer abuse and emotional abuse or neglect.

If you are worried about any type of Safeguarding or Child Protection issue, you must:

  • Talk to a Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you cannot reach a DSL urgently, all members of staff are trained to be able to help.
  • The DSL or staff member will listen to you and may take some notes about what you tell them.
  • They will pass the information on to the Teacher with overall responsibility for Safeguarding which is Miss Stephens, or her deputy, Mrs Williams.

If you need further guidance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Operation Encompass

Teesside High School is committed to Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse. Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or notification to a school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (known as key Adult) prior to the start of the next school day after an incident of police attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved. Information is shared with a school’s Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Please see the information leaflets below for more details:
