Life before Teesside High School
I completed a four-year degree at York St John, with the specialisms of teaching Early Years and Key Stage One, as well as English Literature. Upon leaving university I spent some time working as a supply teacher, which allowed me to expand my experience and skills in teaching the whole primary age range.
What is your favourite lesson?
Choosing my favourite lesson is tough – each day is different and each topic brings something new to the table. I enjoy teaching computing rather than ICT as it encourages creativity, problem solving and independence. Children also really enjoy the wider range of experience using computers and iPads. Our Chocolate topic in IPC is also a particular favourite – it’s not every day that we get to taste chocolate as part of the curriculum!
What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?
I really enjoy working with a supportive staff as well as enthusiastic and engaged children. I like the fact that as a non-selective school, we are able to support children of all abilities to achieve high academic success. Our school sets high standards for the children both academically and pastorally and the children really rise to the challenge.
What is your favourite time of the year?
I really like the last few weeks of the summer term. It is a time of real celebration of the achievements the children have made throughout the year. The end of year production is also a great way to wrap up the summer term.
What do others say about you?
My colleagues often praise my efficiency and organisation – all I can say is, it’s a good job they haven’t seen my house!
