Prep Trips and Visits

At Teesside High School we recognise the importance of providing an educational experience that goes beyond the normal boundaries of the classroom.

With this in mind, we pride ourselves on the number and variety of residential and day trips as well as visits to the school by invited guests that we offer to our pupils. These broaden our pupils’ experiences and enhance learning.

To complement their classroom work, Nursery and Reception children take part in a range of high quality educational day visits, from exploring articulated trucks at Caterpillar, investigating how cars work at Mercedes Benz, reading with experts at Seven Stories and seeing birds up close at RSPB Saltholme.

Day trips are also a regular part of school life for children in Year 1 and above, with pupils regularly visiting art galleries, theatres, exhibitions, libraries, museums and completing workshops such as ‘astronaut training’. Furthermore, our International Primary Curriculum provides ideal opportunities to take the children away on residential visits to experience learning beyond the classroom. The cost of day trips are included in school fees.

In Year 3 and 4, the children experience a residential trip for the first time. This could be to Newcastle and Alnwick, where the children can enhance their learning around the Let’s Grow It! topic; visiting Newcastle’s Centre For Life and enjoying gardening workshops at the beautiful Alnwick Garden. For many children this is the first time away from home, thus providing additional life skills and experiences. This year’s residential trip builds upon our Outdoor Education theme, with a two night stay at the fantastic Gibside National Trust venue.

As the children move through the Prep School, residential visits increase in duration. Years 4 and 5 are invited to attend an exciting outward bound trip to Robinwood Activity Centre in the autumn term, which promotes team building opportunities and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Finally, Year 5 and 6 are invited on a final residential trip to mark an end to their time in Prep. In previous years pupils have visited Normandy, London, Edinburgh, Cornwall’s Eden Project and Holy Island. Staff are always eager to provide pupils with new experiences and innovative ways to deliver the broad curriculum and engage as well as inspire the children to be curious and do their best.
