We are a child-centred, family-focused independent school, where your child’s happiness and personalised learning experience comes first.

Nursery is a magical time and a wonderful place for children to start their school life. Our children thrive in a safe, secure and vibrant learning environment where purposeful play is always the order of the day.

Our experienced Nursery staff nurture each child’s natural curiosity to discover and explore, guiding them in their learning through a broad range of engaging activities. Individuality is cherished, instilling a positive sense of personal identity and developing character, and in this way the foundations for a lifelong love of learning are laid.

We know that choosing a Nursery for your child is an incredibly important decision. As one of the best performing private schools in the North East, we are able to guide you through the whole process and support your child in their transition to Nursery life and beyond.

At Teesside High School, boys and girls are welcomed into our Nursery at the start of the term in which they turn three years old (you can read more about the funding you may be entitled to here). We are renowned for creating a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where each child is treated as a special and unique individual. We are proud to support and encourage our children to feel confident, happy and safe whilst unlocking their skills and talents.

Saying goodbye on your son or daughter’s first day can often be a difficult and emotional experience. We find that our flexible approach to transition is extremely beneficial; we offer the chance for pupils to spend time with us prior to joining through Taster sessions and our regular Stay and Play events. Due to our small nature, we can work around you and your family to develop the best transition plan for your child. We often have children who build up their sessions across a number of months as they progress towards starting school full-time.

Our work is very much in partnership with parents; we aim to build positive and proactive relationships with families to ensure a child’s very best start in life. We use a dedicated, secure portal to share updates and photographs from your child’s week and operate a consistent ‘open door’ policy to ensure you too are happy with your child’s new setting.

Our values

We teach our children to be kind, to show respect, to aim high and to be a team player. Both inside and outside the classroom, we learn about our diverse world and our place within it. We develop a love of nature, and we take steps to care for our environment. We learn about and celebrate different cultures and beliefs.

Meet our staff

When can my child join Nursery?

We welcome children from the term in which they turn three, but your admissions journey can start much sooner. We host regular Stay and Play events and invite those age two and above to come along and experience what our wonderful Nursery environment has to offer.

From three, your child can attend Nursery on either a full or part-time basis, for a minimum of six sessions per week (a session is one morning, or one afternoon for example). Most of our parents choose to join for the equivalent of three or four full days to begin with, before transitioning to full-time over the months ahead to ensure their little one is ready for the routine of full-time school.

“Within our independent nursery, we offer a variety of experiences for children to explore at their own pace in preparation for their journey into school life.”

In addition to the EYFS curriculum, Nursery children benefit from lessons taught by specialists in PE and music, for example, and our most able children are stretched and challenged by joining their friends in Reception for core teaching in subjects such as English and maths, helping further their excellent development.

Our Nursery children play a big part in school life; attending school assemblies, taking part in sports days, performances and plays as well as other school events. The staff in Nursery work closely with other Pre-Prep classes, ensuring a smooth transition as pupils progress through the school.
