Teesside High takes on New York: A Trip to Remember!

On Saturday 14 December, 12 excited students from Teesside High set out for New York City.

Due to missing luggage, the trip began with a quick shopping trip before heading to the Museum of Modern Art. We explored incredible artworks from the 20th and 21st centuries, with Mr Atkinson particularly excited to see Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night in person. The afternoon took us on a long walk to admire the stunning architecture of the Guggenheim Museum before delving into more artwork.

Back to the Future: The Musical and an incredible Broadway workshop

The evening brought one of the trip’s biggest highlights: a spectacular production of Back to the Future: The Musical. After an unforgettable performance, we wrapped up the night with dinner at the Hard Rock Café, returning to the hotel exhausted but exhilarated.

The following morning students took part in a Broadway workshop led by a cast member from Back to the Future! Meanwhile, Sixth Form pupils enjoyed a trip to Madame Tussauds to see the famous waxworks. That evening, we dined at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, where our waiters – Broadway performers between jobs – sang and danced as we ate. It was an incredible experience!

Taking in the views on The High Line

After dinner, we took a scenic stroll along The High Line, a transformed railway line running above Manhattan. It was the perfect place to take in the city’s dazzling lights.
Tuesday morning took us on a more thought-provoking journey to the 9/11 Memorial. Students had the opportunity to reflect on the events of 2001 and witness the beautiful space dedicated to remembering those who lost their lives.

Later in the morning, we boarded a cruise along the Hudson River where seeing the Statue of Liberty up close was a highlight for many! After the cruise, we headed back to central Manhattan to take in breath-taking sunset views from the Top of the Rock.

Ice Skating in Central Park

Our final day arrived all too quickly, but not before one last incredible experience – ice skating in Central Park! While some of us wobbled around like Bambi on ice, others glided effortlessly, but everyone had a fantastic time.

Our farewell dinner in Little Italy gave us a chance to explore another side of New York before heading back to the hotel to prepare for the long journey home. Laden with Christmas shopping and cherished memories, we returned to England after an unforgettable adventure.
