Design & Technology Facilities Upgrade

Monday 23 September 2024 | By Erin McKeown

We are thrilled to share recent changes made to the Design & Technology facilities at Teesside High School.

The DT room was previously designed around a textiles facility, and with the changing curriculum and focus on increasing STEM provision in schools, it was decided an investment would be made to provide a facility update this summer.

What has changed?

Many exciting changes have been made in order to provide improved Design & Technology facilities for our students. These include:

  • The whole classroom being stripped and repainted
  • Floor revarnish; new ceiling installed
  • 6 woodwork benches installed
  • 8 new woodworking and metalworking machines, including lathes, bandsaws and sanders, added
  • The latest CAD and CAM equipment fitted
  • A set of new computers capable of running the latest CAD software, which is used to run the updated 3D printer, CNC Milling machine and laser cutter have also been provided.

What does this mean for our students?

This update allows the Design & Technology department to offer students the best possible facilities to engage them in their learning, provide education in a wider variety of areas across the subject and supply pupils with necessary and relevant practical experience, which is so highly required and valued by industry across the world.

We would like to say thank you to 186 Property Solutions, Crusader and Tilgear for helping to make these upgrades a success. Additionally, this project would not have been possible without our Head of Design & Technology,  Mr Duncalfe, who has utilised his own time and exceptional skills throughout this process.
