County Athletics Competition Success

Friday 07 June 2024 | By Megan Connor

Seven of our strongest track athletes represented Stockton district at the County Athletics Competition, held at Middlesbrough Sports Village on Tuesday afternoon. We had some remarkable performances that showcased the skills and tenacity of our athletes.

Tinashe delivered an outstanding race in the 200m, securing a well-deserved second place finish. Kyle dominated the 1500m, crossing the line in first place with a powerful performance, while in her race, Annabel ran a well-paced 1500m and finished in second place. Next up were the 800m races which featured four of our athletes. Amelie ran a fantastic race to finish in first place, Yasmin and Kyle both displayed excellent determination to finish in second place in their respective races and Martha ran well to finish in fifth place in a very competitive race. Last but not least, Luca lined-up in the 100m sprint and crossed the line in fifth place.

From an evening of highly-competitive races, Annabel, Kyle and Yasmin have qualified to represent Cleveland County. A huge well done to Amelie and Tinashe who were District champions this year and we look forward to seeing them back on the track next year when they will be eligible to compete at County level.

Our success does not stop there. Some of our field event athletes who performed excellently at the District Competition have also been selected to represent Cleveland County. Bethea has been selected for discus, Spencer for both discus and javelin, while Joel will compete in high jump.

As a PE department, we are extremely proud to see so many of our athletes reach district and county levels. It goes to show that all of the hard work and time spent in athletics training and enrichment sessions pay off.

A huge congratulations and good luck to Annabel, Bethea, Kyle, Spencer, Joel and Yasmin who will represent Cleveland County against talented athletes from across the North of England in the next round at Gateshead Stadium on Saturday 15 July.
