Cleveland Philharmonic Choir Concert at THS

Saturday 05 October 2024 | By Erin McKeown

We are excited to announce that the talented Cleveland Philharmonic Choir is set to perform at Teesside High School on Saturday 16 November. This event takes place at 4.00pm in our Main Hall.

Who are the Cleveland Philharmonic Choir?

The Cleveland Philharmonic Choir is a group of approximately 100, including individuals from Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington, Hartlepool, North Yorkshire and Durham. With John Forsyth MBE as Music Director, the choir has presented a wide range of works, from Renaissance music with period instruments to challenging 20th-century pieces, and from those well known and loved, to those rarely heard.

What can I expect?

From seating either in the Main Hall or above on our comfortable balcony, the choir will perform James Whitbourn’s Son of God Mass, accompanied by piano. This piece lasts just over 20 minutes, providing an eastern and jazzy feel alongside beautiful harmonies. Following the interval, when tea and coffee will be served, settle down for Brahms Requiem, sung in English. The soprano soloist is Anna Dias, originally from Yarm. As a child, she starred in John Forsyth’s opera A Kingfisher’s Tale, and she is now a professional singer. Sam Hird, the baritone soloist, is set to impress with his masterful voice and beautiful tone. The accompaniment will be by Andrew Christer and Alison Gill – four skilled hands on the school’s grand piano.
