Celebrating important causes – Head’s Blog

Friday 29 November 2024 | By Erin McKeown

As we approach the festive season, it has been a busy and eventful time at THS, with students and staff coming together to create memorable experiences and celebrate important causes.  I am proud to share highlights of some of the wonderful events we have enjoyed so far, as well as look ahead to the exciting opportunities that await us in the coming weeks.

Children in Need

One of the highlights of the term so far has been our  Children in Need Day.  The entire school came together to support this fantastic cause, with students dressing up in spots, taking part in fun activities and raising a substantial amount of money.  It was heartwarming to see the generosity of our students and staff, and I am proud of the way everyone embraced the event with such energy and creativity.

Power of Women

We have been honoured to welcome so many inspirational guests through our school doors recently. Claire Preston, from the Power of Women charity, lent some inspirational words to our students surrounding the charity’s story and her own personal journey.

Moonrise 24hr Recruitment

I would also like to extend this thank you to Jessica Gwaringa, from Moonrise 24hr Recruitment, who spoke to our A-level and GCSE Business Studies students around starting a business, taking risks and working hard.

Our pupils were nothing short of inspired by these two outstanding role models.

Mission Christmas

Whilst we all look forward with excitement to the festive period, we recognise the same feeling is not universal.  We continue our support for those less fortunate through our Mission Christmas toy collection and Foodbank donation table, and would be very grateful for your support in buying a couple of extra items at the supermarket in the coming weeks.

Winston’s Wish

We are also working closely with national bereavement charity Winston’s Wish, who are hosting a special Christmas party at THS for young people who have lost a parent or loved one.  This event will take place on Saturday 7 December; it is free and open to bereaved children up to the age of 12 in our local area.

It is very important to us that we are thinking of those less fortunate than ourselves and helping these causes where we can.

Christmas Market

This weekend is the annual THS Christmas Market. Make sure to come along tomorrow from 10.00am-1.00pm.  Whether you are looking for unique stocking fillers, tasty treats or a chance to meet Father Christmas himself, our market is a must-visit.  I look forward to seeing you there!
