Students at Teesside High School are celebrating a sweep of outstanding high grades on GCSE Results Day 2024.

High achievement at GCSE

Almost 40% of all examination entries have been awarded the highest possible grades 9-7 (A**-A).

Over a third of the cohort secured 5 or more top grades, equivalent to A**/A*/A, including:

  • Ed Mogie, 12 grade 9s. Ed’s achievement comes just one week after collecting his final early entry A-level. Ed has studied both A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics during his time in the Senior School, achieving a well-deserved A* in each subject.
  • Annabel Reid, 10 grades at 9-7
  • Rohan Vagadia, 10 grades at 9-7
  • Emily Milne, 9 grades at 9-7
  • Siri Musunuru, 9 grades at 9-7
  • Max Affleck, 8 grades at 9-7
  • Joshua Collingwood, 8 grades at 9-7
  • Rosie King, 8 grades at 9-7
  • Ella McCarthy, 8 grades at 9-7
  • Alexander Stonehouse, 8 grades at 9-7

  • Samuel Shovlin, 7 grades at 9-7
  • Rhys Orton, 6 grades at 9-7
  • Saul Bainbridge, 5 grades at 9-7
  • Neel Rathi, 5 grades at 9-7.

The school also recorded an improved 5 grades at 9-4 pass rate (including English and mathematics), and 81% of students secured 5 GCSEs at 9-4.

Kirsty Mackenzie, Head, said: “Our Year 11 students have secured remarkable GCSE results today and we are exceptionally proud of their achievements.

“It is incredible to see our students achieving at the highest level in an impressively broad range of subjects. This cohort has been stretched and challenged across subjects not usually offered in other schools, including Further Mathematics, Astronomy, Latin and even Classical Greek. They have worked hard to demonstrate their talents, and have given themselves a flying start to their further education studies.

“Whilst we place huge importance on examination results, they do paint only part of the picture of our wonderful Year 11 pupils. This cohort includes national finalists in public speaking competitions, gifted sportspeople, talented musicians, global citizens with astute social awareness, Duke of Edinburgh award holders, budding entrepreneurs and much more. We are proud to create an environment where students succeed in all aspects of their well-rounded education.”
